Editors don't open a new manuscript hoping for a puzzle. But between spotting red flags, weighing what actually matters, and figuring out where to focus first, that's often what it feels like.

Hum's latest Journal Fit updates are designed to cut through that noise. This release brings improved accessibility indicators and a significantly expanded Writing Quality experience to Alchemist Review. Together, these updates help editors move through manuscripts more efficiently while making the interface easier for more people to use.

The goal is simple: make the signals editors rely on easier to read, faster to act on, and more useful in practice.

Severity indicators that don't make you squint

Journal Fit's severity indicators now use distinct shapes and icons alongside color. That means editors who are color blind, working on a low-contrast screen, or simply moving fast can read signals at a glance without second-guessing, and move on to the judgment calls that actually need their attention.

Writing Quality now gives editors a deeper view of what needs attention

Writing Quality analysis in Alchemist Review has gotten a serious upgrade. Analysis now covers six criteria:

  • Research Rationale
  • Terms & Units
  • IMRaD
  • Evidence Alignment
  • Language Integrity

That means Alchemist Reivew can now surface not just that writing issues exist, but where and how they appear, giving you more to work with when you sit down to evaluate.

Is the research question clearly motivated? Are terms used consistently throughout? Do the conclusions actually follow from the evidence? Is the content in the right section?

Writing Quality also now includes supporting examples. Editors can see quotes from the manuscript and the section where an issue appears, making it easier to check the analysis against the manuscript itself and jump directly to the relevant passage.

That means less time trying to interpret a vague summary and more time making an informed editorial judgment.

Built for the way editorial review actually works

These updates reflect something Hum thinks about a lot: editors don't need more information, they need better information. Signals they can trust. Context they can use. An interface that gets out of the way.

The accessibility improvements make Alchemist Review easier to use across the board. The expanded Writing Quality analysis gives editors a more structured lens for evaluating incoming manuscripts. Clear examples give editors something concrete to reference in their own review notes, in conversations with authors, or just when they need to justify a decision.
