June 13, 2023Sage, the world's leading independent publishers of journals, books, and digital media for research, educational, and professional markets, today announced a new partnership with Hum, the cutting-edge data and AI company, to understand and leverage its audience and content in pursuit of its publishing goals.

Sage will integrate Hum’s data platform with its own digital publishing and marketing platforms and systems, and use Alchemist, Hum’s AI engine, to understand every individual Sage reader’s interests and intent; to identify new topic and content opportunities; to recruit authors, editors, and reviewers; to provide hyper-personalized content recommendations and ads to readers; and to support transformative agreements.

“At Sage, we strive to understand more about our users and ensure we create meaningful connections and relationships with the research community that supports the dissemination and integrity of knowledge and practice” said Martha Sedgwick, VP of Innovation – Research & Learning at Sage Publishing. “By partnering with Hum, we will gain data-driven insights into our audience, transforming our author, reviewer, and editor recruitment capabilities, advancing discovery across our disciplines, and especially our open access portfolio."

“We are delighted to welcome Sage as a new Hum partner,” said Tim Barton, Hum CEO. “We are excited to work with an innovative publisher such as Sage, and to partner with them to achieve positive impacts for their research communities by putting data and AI to work. Hum will equip Sage with unrivaled intelligence, and the means to act on that intelligence, to strengthen their role as a key leader in academic research.”
